The Conference on Faith and History (CFH) has selected two Eastern Nazarene College history professors to become the next editors of its journal, Fides et Historia. Emeritus professor Donald Yerxa and associate professor Randall Stephens will become, respectively, editor and associate editor in 2011 following a year of transition.

The CFH is a community of 450 scholars exploring the relationship between Christian faith and history. Fides et Historia, its refereed journal, investigates the relationship between the Christian faith and historical studies as well as scholarly research that is informed by Christian faith commitments.

For most of its40-plus years of existence, the editorial home of Fides has been Calvin College. The ENC team will assume the editorial functions of the journal in mid-2011 and collaborate with Point Loma Press on the physical publication of Fides. The first ENC-PLNU issue will be Summer/Fall 2011.

President Corlis McGee welcomes Fides to ENC: “This is a continuation of the rich historical tradition begun at the college years ago with Timothy Smith and Charles Akers and continuing through the James Cameron years to the present.”

Yerxa, who became an emeritus professor last May, served as a history professor and administrator at ENC for over thirty years and continues to teach on an occasional basis. He is currently a director of the 1,000-member Historical Society, located at Boston University and is senior editor of the Society’s signature publication, Historically Speaking, published by The Johns Hopkins University Press. He is also contributing editor for Books & Culture.

Stephens, who chairs ENC’s history department, is also an editor of Historically Speaking and co-editor of the Journal of Southern Religion, one of the first major online peer-review journals.
