Published: 2013-04-16

Classic marches, Latin numbers and Broadway show tunes will be among the musical selections performed by ENC’s Symphonic Winds and 4 O’Clock Jazz Ensemble at a free spring Pops concert to be held at 7:00pm on Wednesday, April 24 in the Cove Fine Arts Center.

Comprised of ENC students, adults and selected area high school students, the 35-member Symphonic Winds will perform a number of selections including a John Philip Sousa march, the Latin “Casa Grande,” two well-known classical excerpts including “La Nozze de Figaro” and the contemporary “Rock Encounter.” The 4 O’Clock Jazz Ensemble will then present a jazz program featuring such numbers as “Birdland” and “Mercy, Mercy, Mercy” featuring solos by guitarist Matthew LaPierre, trombonist Amy Wetzel and trumpeter Steve Rodriguez.  Also performing will be vocalist Emma Ties, whose selections will include “Fever” and “Every Day I Have the Blues.”

A special highlight of the concert will be an appearance by ENC’s acclaimed A Cappella Choir, which will perform musical highlights from the Broadway show Oliver! under the direction of Dr. Timothy Shetler.

“We invite area residents to come and enjoy these local ensembles at this free concert,” said Stephen Bell, director of both the Symphonic Winds and 4 O’Clock Jazz ensembles. “It will be a fun and memorable evening for all ages.”
