Biographical Notes

  • After serving as pastor in Maine for a number of years, Professor Barker returned to his alma mater in 2002. His teaching load focuses primarily in preparing students for vocational ministry, teaching courses like Pastoral Leadership and Congregational Life, Practice of Christian Ministry, Preaching and the Division's capstone course Senior Seminar. A centerpiece of Professor Barker's work is oversight of the Ministerial Scholarship Program, which places students in a two-year internship during their Junior and Senior years with Pastoral Mentors. He contributes to his field through professional presentations at conferences and speaking engagements. In addition to his teaching load, Rev. Barker serves as senior pastor at the Bethel Church of the Nazarene in Quincy, MA. Professor Barker received ENC's Teaching Excellence Award in 2004 and 2009.
