Biographical Notes

  • Professor Hall has taught Physical Chemistry as well as General Chemistry and Advanced Inorganic Chemistry in addition to Analytical lab. Dr. Hall has written four books on chemistry, three of which are based on his research program. As of 2013 has published 120 peer-reviewed articles, many with student co-authors. He has also written invited chapters in 15 books and given over 50 invited lectures during his career. Dr. Hall has gained international recognition as the creator of Molconn, computer software that has been called “revolutionary” for its impact upon pharmaceutical and other industries. Molconn provides the basis for pharmaceutical companies such as Pfizer, Astra-Zeneca, and Proctor and Gamble to evaluate more easily the potency of drug candidates which have not yet been made, for the purpose of determining whether a candidate is worth the expense of developing. Hall is currently involved in an NIH sponsored research program to identify human endogenous metabolites using a novel approach based on his modeling methods. Dr. Hall has been at Eastern Nazarene since 1967, where it has been his main objective to orient students to “think outside the textbook” in order to do current, up-to-date research in the field of chemistry. Dr. Hall was awarded Emeritus status at the 2013 spring commencement exercises and continues to do research at ENC. He lives with his wife Dorla in Quincy, and has two grown children and two grandchildren.
