After graduating from ENC William Wilhoyte (62) went on to earn a master’s degree in administration from Case Western Reserve University in 1965. He received a doctorate in education in 1982 from the University of Maryland-College Park. He continued his post graduate studies at Johns Hopkins and Harvard Universities. In 1963 he returned to a staff position at ENC and served as Crusader coach during Coach Bradley’s sabbatical. He is one of the few honored to have won King’s Tournament both as a player and as a coach.

Bill most recently completed his 50th year as a teacher, principal, regional or community superintendent serving in OH, MA, MD, WI and the District of Columbia. During his 33 years of service in the nationally recognized Montgomery County, MD Public Schools, he was honored several times for his distinguished service and was chosen to serve as the leader of the 200 member MCPS Administrators’ Association. For the past ten years he has served as a senior leader working with five superintendents to transform the most challenging schools in Washington, DC. He was most recently recognized when the DC secondary schools, under his leadership, achieved the highest level of growth in any urban school system in the US.

Bill grew up in Nazarene parsonages in MN, KY, and OH. His father served 50 years as a Nazarene minister and also served as an ENC trustee. Bill sang in quartets at ENC and continued singing in the choir, taught high school Sunday school, and served on the board of Washington, DC First Church following his 1965 marriage to Cheryl Hiers. She attended ENC from 1963-65 and earned a Ph.D. from the University of Maryland in 1977.

In June, Bill retired from DCPS to work with Cheryl as a senior consultant to the Mobile Alabama Public County School System continuing their work toward transforming large urban school districts to ensure access to and success for every student in being college and career ready upon high school graduation by the year 2020.
