What cable television service does ENC provide?

Cable service at ENC is provided by Privatel Inc., an outside contractor. Each room has a single cable TV wall jack to be shared by residents. ENC makes no warranty as to the availability of cable service provided by Privatel.

What kind of TV is required for cable access?

Most cable-ready televisions should work provided they have a cable input and are capable of auto-programming. It is recommended that you have the original TV instructions and remote as programming instructions.

Do I need to provide my own cables?

Yes. You’ll need a coaxial “jumper” cable to connect your TV or other device to ENC’s cable jack. Caution should be exercised in the placement of cables to avoid the creation of a tripping hazard.

Where can I get a cable?

Most electronics or department stores stock these cables. An RG6 quad-shield coaxial cable is recommended. The ITS Help Desk has a limited supply of high-quality cables available for a nomimal fee.

Do I need a cable box to receive channels in my room?

No. A cable box is NOT required to view cable channels.

How do I program my TV to receive cable channels?

Use your TV’s on-screen menus to locate the auto-program function which can be run to discover all available channels. A remote may be required to do so. Please refer to your TV’s instruction manual for details.

Where can I find the list of available cable channels?

A detailed list of channels is provided on cable channel 3 as well as on the ITS web site. Additional ENC community access channels will be added as they become available.

Can I mount my TV on the wall?

No. For your safety and to limit room damage, TVs must not be mounted on the walls.

I’m having cable issues. What are the basic troubleshooting steps?

1) Check your cable connections; 2) See if other channels are affected; 3) Ask a neighbor if they have the same problem; 4) Check the ITS web site for known issues

Who do I contact for technical support?

Technical support issues should be directed to Privatel by emailing after attempting the basic troubleshooting steps above.

Can I sign up for premium channels such as HBO, Cinemax or Pay-Per-View?

No. The ENC cable package does not include premium channels. Channels cannot be purchased by residents.

What if I have non-technical questions about the cable TV service?

General questions related to channel content and availability should be emailed to .

Can I connect other devices?

Yes. Individual devices (DVDs, Tivo, etc.) are the responsibility of the student. Specific questions about configuration should be directed to Privatel.
