L-R: Meghan Holden (’14), Professor Jonathan Twining, and Sarah Andrus (’15) pose before their Vernal Pools presentation at the Cohasset Center for Student Coastal Research.
The Cohasset Center for Student Coastal Research, located on Boston’s South Shore, invited Environmental Science Professor Jonathan Twining and his students to come present and discuss the importance of vernal pools on February 24 as part of their spring 2014 lecture series.

With the help of senior Meghan Holden (’14) and junior Sarah Andrus (’15), Professor Twining shared his passion for the conservation of vernal pool habitats in his presentation titled “Beside Still Waters: Exploring Vernal Pools.” Together with his students, they have certified over 40 vernal pools along the south shore and have shed light on the species that breed in and inhabit these vernal pools.

Professor Twining will be taking his Ecology Lab students out this spring to learn more about vernal pools.
