Users of ENC email accounts may manage spam filtering through a system called Forefront Online Protection for Exchange (FOPE).

Getting Started: Creating Your Account

Complete the following steps to create your FOPE account and begin managing spam filtering.

FOPE uses your email address along with a custom password for login. It does not use NetID.

  1. When FOPE is activated for your email address you will begin receiving email messages from  with a subject similar to: Spam Quarantine Notification: 10 New. To set up your account for the first time, click on the first link in the quarantine message: https://quarantine.messaging.microsoft.com.

  2. You will be prompted with a login page. Click the "Need Your Password?" link. Note: you will not be able to logon with user name and password until after you finish this setup procedure.

  4. After submitting your email address, you will receive an email message from with a subject of: Password Change Notification. Click the link in the message.

  5. You will be prompted to create a password for the system. Enter a password as directed.

Once this process is complete, you may login to FOPE using your email address and your newly created password.

Using FOPE

Periodically, FOPE will send Spam Quarantine messages to your @enc.edu email address. These messages will alert you about the likely spam that was filtered from your email inbox. If you're happy with the way FOPE is working, you may simply ignore these quarantine messages. The spam will automatically be purged after 15 days. If you discover that FOPE is being too aggressive, you may login and make adjustments. Likewise, if you find that FOPE is not being aggressive enough, you may use the Outlook Report Junk tool to "teach" FOPE to block more messages as spam.

Reviewing Spam / Unblocking Messages

Login to FOPE at https://quarantine.messaging.microsoft.com or use the link in the quarantine email message.

Your FOPE login is your email address along with a custom password. It does not use NetID. You will not be able to login until you have completed the set up procedure. See Getting Started above.

After the download is complete, open the file. Follow the prompts for installation.

Depending on your Outlook configuration this will install a button or a menu item that will allow you to report selected messages in your inbox as spam. This will remove the message and will also influence FOPE towards filtering similar messages in the future.
