Undergraduate Research

This is an exciting time to be involved in ENC's Physics and Engineering Department with great research opportunities available to students all year round. ENC students have opportunities to participate in research directly with faculty in their areas of expertise in addition to the numerous opportunities found in the greater Boston area. Numerous students have participated in Research Experiences for Undergraduates at prestigious institutions like Harvard University and Princeton University.

Physics students are actively involved in the following research areas:

  • REU-Research Experiences for Undergraduates - Harvard University, Princeton University
  • Astrophysics
  • MEMS-Microelectromechanical systems
  • Differential Interference Contrast Microscopy

Engineering students are actively involved in the following research areas:

  • Renewable Energy
  • REU-Research Experiences for Undergraduates - Harvard University, University of Maryland, Worcester Polytechnic Institute
  • Signal and Image Processing
  • Cloud Computing
  • Earthquake monitoring with Dr. Pierre-Richard Cornely

Students also participated in the following research areas:

  • Electrical Properties of Semiconducting nanowires
  • Electrical Properties of Superconducting nanowires
  • Autonomous underwater vehicles

As a result of these opportunities, ENC physics and engineering students have gone on to attend the following graduate schools:

  • Northeastern University Ph.D. program
  • Georgia University Tech Ph.D. program
  • Lehigh University Ph.D. program
  • University of Delaware Ph.D. program

And have received full-time positions at companies like Prism Energy, Raytheon, and Ananytha Technology
